Taiwan has a very interesting people and culture. The population is 22,300,929. They wear the same kinds of clothes that people in Europe and the U.S wear. Their main sports are ping pong, tennis, swimming and baseball, their national sport. People in Taiwan mainly eat rice. Most of the people in Taiwan live in cities. They also like to do karaoke.

Taiwan has a multi-party democratic regime. The flag was adopted in 1928 and its capital is Taipei. The currency is the Taiwan dollar (also called yuan). They manufacture cement, clothing, computers, iron, steel, machinery, vehicles, paper, plastic, food, televisions and toys. They grow crops such as rice, fish and squid. Their forestry is cedar, hemlock and oak. China feels that Taiwan is part of their country and the Taiwanese feel they're not part of China.

The first settlers of Taiwan came from China. Large settlements did not begin on Taiwan until the 1600's. The Communists took control of China's government and made Taiwan part of China in 1949. China has give Taiwan some freedom.
